A MOVIE BUFF IN THE BEGINNING OF THE CENTURY
BULGARIA, 2007, DOCUMENTARY, 30 MIN. Director: Petar Odazhiev Script: Boriana Mateeva Camera: Emil Penev Composer: Valentin Stamov Production: Bulgarian National Television Synopsis: Awards: New York Independent Film Festival 2007 Best International Documentary Petar Odazhiev graduated in 1995 from National Academy of Music in Sofia in opera performance and opera staging directing. After more than 20 opera productions around the world in 2000 he graduated in film & TV directing from National Academy for Theatre & Film Arts in Sofia. He also works as producer in his own production company - Odavision. His productions have won many awards at international film festivals. KULTURA - Bulgaria’s weekly newspaper for cultural events "A Movie Buff at the Turn of the Century" turned out to be the festival’s surprise. Focused on the "clinical" movie fan Georgui Angelov the picture follows the road caprices of its object, avoiding the traps of a banal portrait. Poverty, freedom and obsession are the point. Its verbal absurdities show up the absurd aspects of our (film) reality. So the film has transformed the attitude towards its character. And not only mine, I guess…" "BULGARIA" E-Magazine, "Recipe for culture" "This film carries an exceptional message - To cinema with love. Filled with fine humour and with elegant director' s approaches, it honours those, for whom cinema is like "breathing", a way of life. The protagonist is a man of an almost extinct kind – a cinema fan. The authors of the film deserve respect for their efforts to save this rare human kind." |
